The goal of the Westport Police Athletic League’s Youth Sports Program is to provide athletic programs for our community’s youth that is FUN, Inspiring, and builds self confidence. Our philosophy focuses on INSPIRING youth members… regardless of race, gender, creed, color, or ability to pay. Fundamentals are stressed while the ideals of respect, fair play, healthy competition, and teamwork are promoted. Sportsmanship will never be compromised as the underlying tenet of our program.

The PAL Youth Sports Program will meet its overall goal through the following objectives:

· Bringing area youth members closer together through a common interest in athletic competition.

· Providing a supervised, organized, and safety-oriented learning environment.

· Teaching children the fundamentals of Youth Sports and Sportsmanship

· Collaborating closely with the Staples High School Program

· Providing the opportunity to practice and play, free from pressure to win at all costs

· Only volunteer & paid coaches whose personal goals support these objectives will lead our staff.

Our program promotes “safety-first” by requiring PAL Youth Sports teams maintain strict compliance with Association By-laws along with those of the League the participate in.

The adults who support and supervise our youth members will teach and behave in an exemplary manner while keeping the welfare and best interests of youth members first and foremost at all times.

It is required that PAL Coaches do their very best to ensure that each player is utilized to his/her utmost potential and their talents are used for the teams advantage.

The philosophy of our programs is PROGRAM FIRST, DIVISION SECOND & TEAM THIRD. It is our expectation that everything coaches do will help to make our program better and allow the children to grow as athletes. We will strive to provide an environment that is positive for all the kids that participate in our programs. PAL Coaches will to do this by providing the children with positive feedback and a healthy teaching environment. Degrading the children in any way will not be tolerated. Coaches are expected to help all kids and coaches in the program not just their grade/team.

Our coaches are trained and required to attend numerous trainings. Mandatory trainings will include, CPR/FIRST Aid, concussion training, NYSCA certification, PAL Training, and have a criminal back round check conducted.

As parents or participants you can expect that we will do our very best to give your child the best experience they can have. Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns about the program or your child’s participation.

Again, we want to welcome you to the Westport PAL Youth Sports family and hope you have a great experience.
